The Knope Grope

January 31, 2012

Oh my word, Parks and Recreation.  On Saturday I’m not sure what happened, but I think we must have fallen in superglue and then sat on the couch because our bums were glued there for about the entire day.  Andrew went and tutored and I eventually got a shower at 5:00 and we ran an errand or two at that point.  What we did do is watch AN ENTIRE SEASON of Parks and Recreation.  The third season to be exact and now I’m sad and anxiously awaiting the next season to be uploaded onto netflix.  If you don’t remember the phrase in the title go back and watch the camping episode.  I laughed out loud several times during the first ten minutes. Amy Pohler doesn’t disappoint.

Quit Your Day Job!!

January 30, 2012

This is this man’s job.  He travels and sings at churches, I think he needs to seriously reconsider his profession.  It gets better and better as the video progresses and the very end doesn’t really disappoint either.  ENJOY!

As Promised

January 27, 2012

I actually took a few pictures of our first event from Operation Love Austin.  Last night we went to Esther’s Follies downtown 6th street.  We had so much fun.  Honestly I think we both had to fight the urge to not go.  It has been a REALLY LONG WEEK.  Andrew has been doing work stuff until 7 or 8 every night, including last night and the little one I care for started a new sleep schedule and let’s just say I have a lot less time to myself!  The show was a mix of comedy musical numbers, sketches and magic.  They had a phenomenal illusionist.  I mean, really I had no idea how he did any of it.  We laughed a lot and it was really refreshing to go do something just the two of us.  Here are my sad attempts at pictures:

In the theater, yeah sorry the lighting was a little dim for a picture.

Not sure if this place was ever actually a pool, but that was the theme of the building.

The poster out front, can't wait to go back sometime when the show theme changes.

Get Over It

January 25, 2012

That’s what I’ve been telling myself to do for the last 16 hours.  Last night I went to the grocery store and I happened to end up in a line with a checker who had a stick shoved up her fill in the blank.  I mustered up the energy to be friendly because I was tired and hadn’t been home in over 12 hours.  She made a snarky comment to me so then I kept my mouth shut.  Then as she’s scanning my produce she purposely with force ripped open my bag of oranges and had them tumble down the conveyor belt resulting in my getting home with one less than I paid for.  I wasn’t mad about the lost .20 I was ticked that she purposely ripped my bag open so they would go everywhere.  I almost was blunt and asked her why she would do that, but it wasn’t worth the energy of fighting with her.  I don’t know why it upset me so bad, I guess I just felt blatantly disrespected.

Today I headed over to LBB and got over it pretty quickly.  Her cancer story is amazing and if you click on the video of her daughter shaving her head you will surely need tissues, I sobbed.

Bet You Didn’t Know

January 23, 2012

Andrew got a funny book for Christmas from my mom.  It’s called The Essential Book of Useless Information by Don Voorhees.  I’ve been reading a couple pages a day and I’ve learned some fun facts about everything from squirrels to psychiatric conditions.  I thought I’d share a few with you!

Squirrels teeth grow continuously and they gnaw to wear them down.

The first remote control was made by Zenith in 1950 and called Lazy Bones.  It was attached to the T.V. with a wire.

Fred and Ethel Mertz from I Love Lucy despised each other in real life.

Captain Kirk never said, “Beam me up, Scotty,” in any episode of Star Trek.

The real life Soup Nazi of Seinfeld fame was so mad at Jerry Seinfeld that he refused to accept Jerry’s heartfelt apology.

Jennifer Aniston’s birth name is Jennifer Joanna Anastassakis.

AND MY FAVORITE, I actually laughed out loud when visualizing this last one:  During the opening scene of The Sound of Music, with Julie on top of the mountain, she kept getting thrown to the ground by the helicopter’s downdraft.

If you love fun facts this is a great book, who know perhaps this will help me win future games of trivial pursuit!

A Beautiful Weekend

January 18, 2012

With a Beautiful Friend.  This weekend we could not have ordered better weather.  It was unseasonably warm with highs topping out at 75.  We tried to pack in as much as possible while Jenna was here for a long weekend visit.  All the pictures below were taken by Jenna, you know I don’t have this kind of picture taking talent.

Friday Jenna and I went to South Congress to piddle around until the Mister could meet us for lunch.  We went into the boutiques, wandered around uncommon goods and picked up some goodies at Big Top Candy Shop.  If you ever come to Austin South Congress is a must on the list of places to visit.

Saturday we went to Hop Doddy for lunch.  That, my friends, was a mistake.  Don’t get me wrong I got a Turkey Burger and it was delicious, but we waited OVER AN HOUR to get a burger.  Word to the wise, if the line is out the door it’s not worth the wait, but if there is no wait you should definitely go!  Then we headed to the botanical gardens to wander around for an hour.  I love this place, but right now due to the drought all of their cool water features are turned off and nothing is in bloom.  That night we went to the Alamo Drafthouse and saw MI4, really good movie and as always I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the Alamo Drafthouse.

And that’s where the pictures end.  Sunday was church and family time.  We watched the Golden Globes which weren’t nearly as offensive as I expected!  Then on Monday Jenna and I drove to Gruene to go to the fun shops and eat at the Gristmill.  It was a fun trip and now I’m trying to figure out when I can possibly go to Denver to visit her!

The Percentage Theory

January 11, 2012

I have a friend that I met this past year that has a theory about why Christmas comes faster the older you get.  In fact why everything seems to come faster the older you get.  When you are a kid, let’s say 2 years old, you have to wait almost your entire lifetime (well half your lifetime) for Christmas to roll around again. If you are 25 you only have to wait 1/25 of your life for a year to happen.  I’m not sure if I’m explaining this totally properly, but it’s something I think about a lot.  It’s scary that the older we get the faster we will perceive our life is going by because each year will just be a small (and get smaller) portion of our lifetime.

Any thoughts on this??  I’d love to know what you think and has this ever crossed your mind before?

Operation Love Austin

January 10, 2012

So as a lot of you know we came to Austin thinking we would love it because, well honestly, every time we visited we did love it, and then when we actually moved here we weren’t feeling the love so much.  There’s a lot of things we like down here: living close to family, our jobs, our home, even our dentist and my doctors, and we love how close things are in our little section of town.  I’d be lying if I said I never fantasized about living somewhere else, but over the last couple days I’ve made a decision.  Yeah, I not we, Andrew will find this out if he reads the post.  I am embarking on a year that I’m calling Operation Love Austin.  Every month for the next year we are going to do something that Austin offers.  This month we are going to Esther’s Follies which is a satirical comedy club downtown that people have raved about, but we’ve never made it there.  I bought the tickets last night.  In February we are going to go to Wicked because I’ve never seen it and I refer to it as my generations “Cats,” it’s at least that epic I think.  Not sure what we are doing every month yet, but I’m pretty sure in June I’ll be dragging Andrew to the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson show.  Always wanted to see a performance and could it get better than merging them with Michael Jackson, I think not?  I will try to keep you posted on how it is going. Maybe I’ll take pictures and post them (highly unlikely, but it’s a thought).  If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with, right? (reference to the city, obviously not the mister)
